Food makers hungry for dealsThe recent purchase of Cadbury by Kraft Foods will likely spur other food makers around the world to go on a shopping spree. Ken Harris, chief executive at the Kantar Group, a retail consultancy, expects more food companies to be bought up in the next 6 to 12 months. He also expects the U.S. grocery industry to consolidate further. "The U.S. grocery market has too many supermarkets and this is likely the year that healthy players, particularly privately held operators like Wegmans and Publix, could begin to swallow smaller or struggling operators," he said.
