Wal-Mart Eyes Downtown Toronto

Wal-Mart developer Mitch Goldhar has acquired a 50% stake in a downtown Toronto site raising speculation that the city may soon be getting its first downtown big box. According to a report in the Toronto Star, Goldhar's SmartCentres Inc.—the largest developer of power centres in Canada—paid $14 million for its share of the property, the current home of the Toronto Film Studios. According to the report, Goldhar said he purchased the property as a potential site for a centre, but that there were no immediate plans to build.
