Grocery sales up but specialty soarsSales in food and beverage stores were up 3.2% in May versus a year ago. However, sales rose just 0.9% from April to May. Grocery stores and supermarkets had 3% year-over-year growth and 0.9% growth month-to-month. Specialty food stores, meanwhile, saw huge gains: up 9.3% in May compared to a year earlier. Convenience store sales rose 3.4%. Total retail sales are 5.2% ahead of last year, but fell 0.2% from April to May. Source: Canadian Grocer E-Newsletter, August 4, 2010
